Protesting Bush's Visit
Is it really anarchy if the anarchists are organized?
At least five protest demonstrations are planned during the visit of US President George W. Bush in Tallinn on November 27-28, but only one has received the necessary permit from the Tallinn city government.
Fans of demonstrations may wish to attend the first protest, scheduled for November 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the US embassy in Tallinn. The organization RedBlack, which claims to be the anarchistic movement of Estonia, wishes to welcome the president in its own fashion, protesting “aggressive foreign policy and undemocratic activities.” RedBlack will also meet on November 28 at the Tallinna Linnahall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is the only public meeting that so far has received the permit from the city government.
On November 28th, the mainly Russian-speaking organization NightWatch plans to picket by the president’s chancellery building in Kadriorg when presidents Bush and Ilves meet.
Mihkel Kaevats has applied to picket the same day in front of the parliament building to express his condolences to Bush and his loss of popularity.
Mr. Erko Valk plans a protest meeting against the fact that Bush’s visit will close down half of central Tallinn. He wishes to protest in front of the Stockmann department store.
