Tallinn's Gay Parade
Sticks and stones may break my bones...
Last week in Tallinn’s gay pride parade, eggs and rocks were thrown at participants, as were a few fists. The worst incident occured when 30 skinheads descended on the parade attacking its female participants. One television station broadcast footage of the parade’s private security force rounding up a few of the skinheads and loading them into paddy wagons. The press reported 15 injured participants plus one bloodied Spaniard who was only watching the parade. But, in our opinion, the best blow was struck by parade organizer Lisette Kampus. “Congratulations to the attackers,” she said. “They have elevated Estonia in the foreign media to the same level as countries like Latvia and Poland.”
